The Heiji Rebellion was a short-lived civil war in Japan in the year 1159, at the height of the war the emperor Nijo and the former emperor Go-Shirakawa were kidnapped by Fujiwara no Nobuyori in a poorly planned out scheme to make himself the Imperial Chancellor. Remind yourself to think ahead with this wonderful reprint of an illustration from 1907.
